Try inserting a cord in the effects loop jacs on the back of the amp and possibly the jacks on the front of the amp. These probably need to be replaced.

Can you wiggle the plug in the input jack and make the volume change? If so you may have a bad solder connection in that area.

J,

It appears your amp needs a routine service. There are connectors (Molex) and switched jacks inside this unit that need routine maintenence and attention and I bet that this is your problem. While inside the amp, a tech can measure critical voltages, do a vistual inspection and check for bad (cold or broken) solder joints. I would think that most NV 400 users should consider this servicing about every 5 years or so. This should not constitute a major expense with an ethical and fair tech or shop. My shop charges $40 for such a service for almost any amp, tube or solid state.

I had this happen to my 1983 Nashville 400...volume getting lower with age..Sent it to Peavey for return to spec and add "Lemay" style mod...Returned in 10 days for about $100 ...Great investment!!!JS

This happened to me yesterday at sound check...pulled the Molex connector from underneath the chassis, sprayed it with Blue Shower, and plugged back...wiggled it a few times...good as new!Chronic problem with these amps...easy to fix!
