I have a blown original peavey black widow speaker. I have found a place that says they can recone it for around $100. Is it worth is? Is there anything special about these speakers? Or is it just time for it to get thrown out?

Bill,
You can "recone" a Black Widow speaker yourself in 5 minutes.

Bob, this is one of the real early ones that they don't make baskets for anymore.

OK Bill,
I thought of that AFTER I made my brilliant post.

I'm seriously thinking of having it reconed. I have heard they are good sounding speakers. I just want to make sure that it will still be a good sounding speaker after it is reconed!

You didn't say what size speaker it was, but if you shop around, you can get a new BW 1501, that you can recone, should you manage to blow it, for not much more than that 100.00. That's the route I'd take. And BTW, the Black Widow's are some of the best sounding speakers I've ever heard!
