We will be in Dallas at the TSGA Jamboree. If possible, we encourage you to bring your Black Box by for a free check-up and update if needed. Any questions, please e-mail me.

Brad when you say update, what does that mean? Do I need to get parts from you since I can not come to Dallas? What affect does it have on the BB?

The update is for a batch of Boxes that have the newer power supply transformer (the one with international voltage options) but with an older heater resistor. The update is subtle. It brings the heater voltage up a hair to fall a bit more tightly within recommended spec. It is not a sonic issue. It theoretically will help to prolong tube life.
I'll do the upgrade for free for anyone who can use it. I'm working on a webpage that can guide any "tech" do it. I'll send the part for free. If anyone needs me to do it, I'll do it for free, but I'll let you cover the shipping. Again, it's not a critical upgrade, it's more of a tweak. If you find me in Dallas, I'll do it on the spot.

The serial number is inside next to the circuit board. It's also faintly on the underside in black sharpie. Larry, yours could use the new resistor. Reggie, yours could too.

Brad
I'm out on the road currently - can you tell from your records if mine needs the update? (I can't check the # for a day or so as it's in one of the trucks somewhere!)
It's sounding great, by the way....

What a guy!
As I read it, it isn't a mandatory fix,
but being the total perfectionist he is,
Brad found a way to make it a fraction better, and is telling y'all so you can have that if you want it.
Not many makers would bother with that for sure. |
