Will somebody tell me the best way to hook my pod xt to both, my steel, and my Strat please?
I use the 3 chord hook up on my session 500rd. I have a poweramp imput on the back of my amp also. Thanks for any help.

First, if you use the "3 cord" setup you CANNOT use the Power Amp in as that will bypass the normal front power input and also the volume pedal/effect loop and the EQ in the amp. Essentially using the power amp in only uses the amp as a "power amplifier" and speaker.

I use mine, with my Nashville 1000, strictly as an effect processor. I run my steel output to my Hilton Volume Pedal, from the Hilton Volume Pedal to the POD XT input, the Left Out on the POD XT to the Normal front panel input on the Nashville 1000.

If you want to use the POD XT as the preamp and effects processor then you need to run from guitar to volume pedal, from the volume pedal to the POD XT and then from the POD XT output to the Power Amp in.

You would connect youor 6 string guitar at the input to the POD XT (unplug the volume pedal from the steel and plug the 6 string guitar in there). Or you could use a two way switch which would allow connecting both the steel and 6 string guitar and then all you would have to do is press the switch to select either the steel or the 6 string guitar.

I used to use the 3-cord setup but I've found with effects, either the stomp boxes or something like the POD XT the 3 cord setup really doesn't get you anything.

Jack, is this the way I would hook it up, to keep from turning any of my amp tone knobs?
I hadn't had time to read the whole manual but it said somethin about hookin it up and not have to worry about usin your amps tone knobs.
BTW- where do you get the two-way switch? I'd rather do it that way, to keep from having to unplug all that stuff. is that what I ask for a two-way switch? as you can see, I know nothin about eletronic stuff.
thanks for your help.

Terry, They're called AB boxes. You can even get ABC boxes now. I use one, but the other goes to my acoustic instruments and has a preamp in line. So, I just turn the volume pedal down on my steel and put my steel chord in my guitar. I could do it with another AB box, but it's just too many chords.

You can get ABs in Guitar Center or anyplace like that.

Hey Webb, Jack said he came out of his output on his amp and went to his volume pedal. I have a session 500rd. I don't see an output on this amp. I still ain't got this stupid thing hooked up to where it will work on my steel.
How do you hook your's up to your steel?

Terry,
Here's what I'd do:
You have the best steel guitar amp ever made, why bypass the tone controls, which are specific for steel, by using an effects unit which is primarily aimed at regular guitar players.
I can understand you wanting to use the Pod to put both your steel and your Strat through the Session 500, but I would advise against it.
The speaker in a Session 500 has a paper cone, and is not designed to take the rigours that an overdriven/distorted regular guitar is capable of delivering.
The Peavey amps that are designed to take multiple instruments, ie the Vegas, use a speaker cone that is impregnated with Kevlar, to handle the harsher musical environment.

Richard, where did you come up with that theory?
The Session 500 has built in fuzz. I know several lead guitar players that are using them, without problems. Joe Wright has used a Session 500 for a long time and also does some songs with distortion in his act. The 1502 speaker is also sold by Peavey as a Bass speaker and will take the rigors of a bass.

Jack,
The Session 500 uses the 1501 speaker. Mike Brown of Peavey imparted the kevlar information a while back.

Guys, my session has a JBL in it instead of a BW. Don't know if that makes a difference or not. somebody said the factory recomendations on the Pod was to connect it via the pre-amp out and the power-amp in.
do any of you guys hook your's up that way?

I want to hook it up where I want have to start turning my amp knobs when I switch from steel to guitar. I have my amp set right where I like it, I'd like to leave it set like that and just use the Pod for different tones. I want be using very much distortion at all. Thanks for all your advice.

Richard, the old Session 500's used the 1502 speaker. I had one and used it from 1981 or 82 (when I got it new) until 1995. I've worked on several Session 500's and they all had teh 1502 speaker. The 1502 speaker was also used in the early Nashville 400's. The 1501, used in the later Nashville 400's wasn't introduced until 1989/90.

If you have one with a 1501, it's not the originl speaker.

Yet again I have demonstrated that I am the dumbest @$$***@ on the Forum!
Folks, any advice I give on this Forum should have an official warning printed alongside it:

That's the way I'd prefer to do it. where in the chain does the 2-way switch go?
