Ala Moana Center (next to Sears/Longs) was the place to be for the best in Hawaiian music, as three of the states best musicians dropped in and jammed for shoppers. The unique aspect of yesterday's 'event', is that while there are often musicians performing for free in the area, this time the steel was well represented. The jam which generated a lot of curious and happy looks, took on a life of it's own, prompting other musicians to offer their talents the next time. Hopefully, this will become a habit and will lead to more than just fun. Bobby, Jeff, and Derrick are all about promoting the steel guitar, and this may be the start of (once again) building interest in the instrument. |

Wish I could have been there in sunny Hawai'i listening to those three instead of sitting here looking at pre-winter SNOW ! Yes, it snowed today at a time when we are supposed to be enjoying our beautiful Indian Summer season ! Auwe! |

Hooray, I win! I was thinking about you, Gerald, I was shocked you hadn't gotten it posted yet!
George, you would have enjoyed your self, for sure. It would have been great to hear you on one of the Bakelites, or Jeff's '47 L7. Maybe you can make it for next weeks jam...?

Jeff...no hu hu. It's the results that count, not the way you get them! From what I have heard of you, you get results even with the straight finger. |

Jeff,
It looks like you are the sole amplified member of the trio. What are you using for an amp? Are you happy with it?

I think Jeff needs a tricone!
Good guitar face though, excellent grimace!

Gerald, the amp was Bobby's Roland 'Micro Cube', I think Jeff also owns one, and Derrick will probably be getting one.
Anybody looking for a feather weight portable 'tone' source, should pick up one of these. They're cheap, good quality all around, lots of features (for a small amp), and run on only 6 AA's.
Micro Cube, thanx for the correction Donald![This message was edited by Ron Whitfield on 11 September 2004 at 01:05 PM.] |

The Roland Micro-Cube is a fantastic little amp. Especially for impromtu sessions. I'm still perplexed as to how it makes such a huge sound from such a little package. The local Music Store sez it's the hottest item in a long time. |

I second that. I just got one of those micro cubes this summer, and it's all I am using now.
The best thing is that it has absolutely no hiss. I don't know how they do that...

How is the Micro Cube in terms of distortion? Specifically I mean lack of distortion.
Can it deliver a good clean sound with a touch of reverb (i.e. steel guitar) without overdriving the 5" speaker?

Yes it can. It won't drive you out of the room. There is a separate knob for "gain" and if you keep that turned down it can be quite clean. Worth checking out.
