I just got an old Harmony lap. The one pot was frozen, so I sprayed and got it free. The volume seems to work ok, but when I turn the other knob which I assume is tone, it cuts out. Should I start by checking all the grounds and continuity? Could it be a bad pot or condensor? Thanks, Ron

Ron, the most likely cause of the problem is a bad potentiometer(pot). If you sprayed contact cleaner in it and it didn't help, you probably have a bad pot. This can be tested with an ohmmeter connected between the center terminal and one of the side terminals(use the Rx1000 or 10000 scale). When you turn the shaft, the resistance should change smoothly. Digital meters do not show this as good as the meters with a pointer...........JD

He had separate volume pots. I believe I have vol/tone knobs. I will check the wires and grounds, but it sounds like a bad pot.
