How many of you guys use another brand of pickup on your emmons guitar. I'd like to know if most emmons players like emmons pickups on their guitars or prefer another brand, and which brand do you prefer? tanks

I replaced the stock Emmons pickup on my PP with a Wallace True Tone. I like the Tru Tone better, although the original pickup was very good also. The difference is mostly in the highs, which are cleaner.

Add me to that list of TT users. Also with my Hilton and BB you should hear the sound now.

I replaced the George L's on my 1983 PP with Lawrence L-910's, and like the sound better. The Lawrence pickups are better at suppressing hum, yet, because they are wound in a single plane they have similar characteristics to a single coil pickup (minus the hum).

E-66 if you need a humbucker, True Tone if you want the very best single coil pickup. The True-Tones, in my opinion, are much better than what Emmons has made in a single coil. I don't care much for a L-710 in my push/pulls.

I have a D-11 cut-tail with the split-coil, wound at around 18k and 10.5k. I just picked up a D-11 wrap-around that has a Bill Lawrence custom pickup wound to 30k that seems to sound better. I would have thought that it would be a more "muddy" sound, but it has a lot of top and bottom and it sounds like an Emmons.

My favorite humbucker is built by Jim Pitman. I just ordered a couple more of them. I have heard that Jay Dee Mannes uses them in his Emmons.

Thanks to all you guys. I currently have the pentad pickup on my Legrand. I really don't have any complaints with the pickup, but just wanted to know what you guys liked.

Terry, I don't know anything about the Pentad, but TT's at 17.5K sure was a large improvement over the Emmons pickups on my LeGrande. They will really wake-up the highs.

What Brad Sarno suggested I will have by the end of the week. I have E-66's in my Fessenden (complments of Herb S.) and have some 17.5 TTones coming any day I will install them in my Legrand. Can't wait to hear the difference between those and the 20K Stock Emmons pickups I will be removing.I hope they will be ok on the C-6 neck.

Guys, can I change the pickup on E9 to a TT and leave the C6 alone? is it a big job to change out the pickup. will somebody just run through the steps on changing my E9 pickup? I've never changed one, but it can't be that much to it. thanks

I swapped the single coil pickup in my S12 '80s Emmons p/p for a TrueTone single coil. Frankly, I couldn't hear any difference. If there is any, you would have to do a side-by-side comparison to hear it. I think the Emmons single coil pickups are already so good, there is not much room for improvement. The same may not be true for other single coils, or for older Emmons single coils.
