Yes, I know it should be called a Reso...
I found a few threads about these in the archives but have more questions.
What was the overall quality of the construction and sound?
What's the current market value?
Thanks.[This message was edited by Joey Ace on 27 August 2004 at 02:52 PM.] |

Joey A-I have owned one or two-The standard model came in Spanish round neck or Hawaiian square neck in six or seven strings-they have a considerably wider (at lower bout) body than all Dobros (except the Norwood Chimes model) The most desired model (IMHO) is the "Shot Jackson Custom" model which I believe were a limited production-My viewpoint is that they (Sho-Bro) do not sound as good as Dobro made guitars [This message was edited by PAUL WARNIK on 30 August 2004 at 08:52 AM.] |

Joey - There is a knowledeable Sho-Bro resource, first name Ritchie, on the resoguit list. I believe he is former pedal steeler, although I don't think I've seen him on the steel guitar forum. |

Thanks guys. I had an lead on one, but I passed. Not too many people have nice things to say about them. I don't need another instrument anyway.
Bryan, I found Ritchie's posts using the Search at ResoGuit. He has FOUR Sho-Bors and loves them.
He also has an Emmons D10 Push Pull that he says hasn't been out of the case in years.

Hey Joey,....what am I, chopped liver?
I've got one and I agree with Paul. It does remind me of my ex.....a wide lower bout. It falls short in the tone department with the sound a little muffled. I know that they were made by both Gretsch and Sho-Bud. Mine has a Gretsch tailpiece so I assume it's not a Sho-Bud, although as I understand, the Sho-Buds also used the same tailpieces.
It's a nice piece to have hanging around but the standard Dobros do sound better. |

Joey
I don't know if you were interested in
going Reso ! or it looked like it might be a
good deal - IMO - you can make a reso out of a cigar box and make it sound good !
Its in the tin and set up that counts most ,
I have set up Johnson's and had them sound as good as my Dobro .
