Every second time I change strings, I only change the plain strings. I believe I'm not too cheap ; but it just seems that the wound bass strings last longer (or that they are not as critical as the plain strings).
Of course, I do most of my playing on the treble strings. Harmonics sound better on newer strings, to me.
Does anyone else do this; or am I just cheaper than I think?

I don't actually do that yet, but have been seriously considering it...I find the sound of new wound strings quite unpleasant.
I never change my low bass strings (e.g. .060 and thicker). I think they need to be aged to have that sufficient dead "thunk" to them. |

Jeff......you are in reality, much wiser than at one time I might have believed. Good thinking! I agree! |

I'll cosign this, I use alcohol to clean them if they get too dead, on the road I would use Bacardi 151 if they got un-tunable, rather than switch them and sound sproingy and go outta tune all night. They gotta age a few days before I like them.
