Topic: Convention: Fender Steelking? |

| Did anyone hear the Fender Steelking at the convention? It was supposed to be demonstrated there but i didn't hear any comments yet. |

I commented about the Fender Steel King in my thread in the events section and obsereved both Tom Brumley and Jay Dee testing one out.

For my taste this is a fine amp with excellent mid range characteristics , above and below the mid point.
powerful and clean..but it does weigh more than a N1000 by about 10 pounds.

| On one of the SteelRadio interviews, the Fender guys said that Larry Sasser used one for his set. Couldn't tell much over the Internet, but it sounded okay to me. |

| I played several different guitars thru the one Scotty had in his room of used steels. They sound PHAT with a nice crisp edge to them. Peaveys are great and I've got 3 of them but the Fender has a distinct voice of it's own. I'm seriously considering one. They have a lot of EQ and a really nice spring reverb which I normally don't care for. One nice touch is an XLR direct out with its own volume control. -MJ- |

Larry played through 2 of them. Tom Brumley used one along with his personal Bassman/15" JBL. I played a new Carter through one in the Fender room and was *very* impressed with the combo

Steve, yes, Sam was there and he is definetly a cool dude.
He walked me thru my road test of the new amp and we had a chance to talk for a few minutes as well.
Most of those that tested the amp did so on a Carter D10 , an excellent combination. There was a video playing in the room of Buddy playing Blue Jade at the NAMM show thru the Steel King, which I undestand he now has 2 of. Buddy was playing Blue Jade on a Carter D10 in the video and make no mistake..it was Buddy's tone all the way..if you closed your eyes and just listened you would have thought...
Just like the Miller Lite commercial...
Fine amps for sure..
Oh and another heads-up..the Peavey room also had a very similar Carter D10 for kickin' the tires of the Peavey amps so those of us that took the time to fool with the GEAR had a relative reference.

I did use 2 STEEL KING amps on my set at St. Lo. I liked the mix of my 66 Emmons PP and teh Steel King.

I was very impressed with them. I have Charleton's old "The custom" Standel and the Fender Steel King had the same sort of vibe. Real sweet feathery highs and a rich mid range.
