I have a Session 400, one of the models that came with the JBL speaker which has a model # on it of 78777022, 4 Ohm. Had lot of problems with the amp & sent it to Peavey Repair and they fixed about everything that could be fixed and the amp unit checks to factory specs. I have found that the amp still cuts out, but when I unconnected the speaker wire & used a different amp, the speaker also cut out with that amp!! It sounds great when it is on, but it just keeps cutting out & coming back on. I replaced the wire & that did not help either. Can anyone tell me whats going on with this JBL. Is there a place that I can send it for repair, does it need 'reconed' or something like that? Any suggestions on solving this would be most appreciated. I am just a steel guitar player, & I don't know a lot about electronics.

| Ernie, I had a similar problem with a JBL, it was nothing more than the braided wire that goes from the coil on the speaker to underneath where you have the spring loaded connectors where you hook the wire from the amp. Where the braided wire connects I loosend and retightened those connections on the speaker frame. It could be more serious but this should be your first try. |

Thanks Jim, I will try that right now!! This thing is driving me nuts!! When its on it sounds great, but it keeps shutting off. I saw a post on down on this section where a guy had the foam inside that wire mesh that had went bad & was screwing up the speaker, that sounds like a nitemare too me!!

I'll go along with Jim on this one, Ernie. The tinsel-leads sometimes aren't soldered properly at the factory, or they may break from the millions of flexings they go through. It may require reconing, though, before all's said and done. I've had tinsel-lead failures twice in my 40 years of steel playing.
Any good speaker repair shop should be able to fix it easily |
