When I have a song playing on my BIAB, the cursor runs about a bar ahead of the sound. Is there a setting I can use to synch them up better?

Hi Jim
I think you are referring to "latency". If you are using the Roland software soundcard there is almost a half second (.44something on my computer. There certainly is a difference between sound and screen. I use the Edirol sound canvas with my biab and have no latency at all. Sound is so superior there is no comparison. Everything reads in time as I go through a song. I think there may be some adjustment in the program but I don't think it is that fine of an adjustment. I believe it is just how much the screen reads ahead of where you actually are.

Jim I use a Roland SC 88 and there is no delay. I connect it with a Midiman 2 port USB device and works great.

Jim, you should be able to change the "buffer" settings on your sound card. There should be a dialog in your system settings. Lower buffer settings should give you less latency, but if you start to hear pops and cracks then you need to raise the buffer settings.

I know what you're talking about, Jim. The cursor jumps ahead immediately when it reaches an entry in the chart. So if you have one chord entry in the measure, at the tick of the downbeat of that measure the cursor has already advanced to the next bar. It is kind of disorienting, I agree. I don't know if there's a way to change that.

Guys, I don't know what I did right, but the problem seems to be gone now. Must be all the discussion here scared it away!
Thanks!

Jim...in case it happens again (assuming that you ARE using a sound font software synth like the Virtual Sound Canvas that requires some processing time, instead of a hardware module connected through a midi port)...

Go to "Opt" on the menu bar...next go to "Midi driver setup"...then set the Driver Latency window to around 430ms.

Every time I have changed from the outboard sound module to the Sound Canvas software program BIAB automatically corrected for it and 430ms seems where it adjusted itself to. Maybe something got unadjusted manually when you were messing around with it and when you reselected VSC it adjusted correctly.
If you haven't tried an external sound card you are in for a treat. They sound so much better.
