I know there are different ways to hook up the POD but was curious if many are using it as the pre amp straight into the power amp or just putting it in the fx loop of another pre like a Profex, Evans, or Mesa. |

It works perfectly as a preamp into a power amp.

I use my Genesis3 as a stereo premp into a PV Classic 50/50.
It should work great.

When I was running the Pod, before going back over to combo amps, it was as you say, strictly as pre. Either into a stand alone power amp or into the amp-in jack of a combo. |

Coolaroonie! I guess I wouldn't even need the updated XT if I were playing out of a pair of 15s. The cab simulator would just be for recording so the POD 2 should sound pretty good. Also; it seems that would be a good quick-change box for steel to guitar. Thanks.- Scott |

I've heard enough people saying how much better the XT is than the 2.0 (I've got 2.3) that I'll take it on faith that they aren't just blowing smoke. But I got good sound out of my 2 into either a Mosvalve amp or into the back of an Evans FET500. Unless you are shaping some specific overdriven colors, yes, save the speaker cab sims for direct recording (or live/direct to board) but disable the cabs for live amping--much better and clearer sounds that way. However, when designing overdriven patches I did find that sometimes a specific cab was the cherry on top to finish off a great blues slide guitar color (or a head-banging gnashfest sound, for that matter, not that I ever went there, oh goodness no!).

I'm planning on doing just that, as soon as I get my patches together. Still, there are effects that the POD doesn't do well (or at all), so I'm planning run the output into a Rotosphere and a Lexicon before it gets to the power amp.

So Bob, so far you consider it (POD) up there somewhere with your Mesa but with more amp choices? [This message was edited by Scott Denniston on 05 July 2004 at 02:00 PM.] |

I haven't used it with speakers yet, Scott. So far it seems to be very versatile, but I've only heard it in phones. I like having a lot of different, high quality tones at my command. The POD seems to do that. I won't know for sure until I feel it pushing major volumes of air, and I won't even try that until I have a few good stage-worthy patches.

I us my PODxt as a preamp and it sounds great to me. As far as to many options, yeah there are alot. The digital delay is the main effect I use out of the PODxt and I add reverb with the amp. |
