Hi Jody. I know nothing about the Digi. I've got a Holy Grail. It is real surprising how close this digital box gets to the sound of a Fender spring tank. I have no hesitation using it with a non-reverb rig. Because of the nature of using the reverb in front of the preamp/amp instead of inserting it between the preamp and the power amp like a reverb combo like a Twin for instance, I hear a difference in the clean-ness, as opposed to a bit of muddiness when you inject a reverbed signal into the front end of an amp. But that's just the nature of the beast.
However I must mention that there is a fair amount of online bulletin board chatter about bad quality control and unreliability. Mine has more white noisy hiss than I would like but it's not unacceptable on the bandstand and I have had no problems with it. I never know how to assess negative reports online--is it just a small group of people bellyaching too loud or is it a significant number of users reporting a real issue. Can't help you there. |

I have tried a Digi Tech and it does nothing for me. I heard about the Holy Grail and thought I would give it a try. I'll see if I can borrow one from Ash and give it a try.

Jody,
I've been using a holy grail for a while now. It works great. I even use it for sessions. Its a great mom and pop company also. I packed it poorly and it came down the luggage belt off a plane in Ireland in pieces. I brought it by the Electro harmonix place in Queens and they fixed it for free without any reciepts or anything on my part. Nice guys.

facility?

I checked out a Digiverb pedal when they first
came out. I tried it for a day or so and
the quality of the reverb was terrific!
BUT......it did make a bit too much
hissing noise for me. In an effects loop, it
would be fine though. |

Thw qaulity is good but the reverb sounds are too artificial.
I think Bob Hoffnar has a better idea with Holy Grail.

Always on the trail of small, good reverberation, I just did a little Google research on the Holy Grail.
These reviews by pickers at Harmony Central basically say that, 1) yes, it's a no-brainer to operate, 2) generally sounds pretty good, and 3) opinions on construction, design and components range from "complete piece of crap" to "well, okay" quality-wise.
My impression, from the reviews, is that it might be one of those things that are great if you take it to your home music room and don't move it much, but if it starts going to one-nighters, tossed in pack-seats, and being handled by roadies and sound men, you're on your own, Bubba.

I've been using the 'Holy Grail' for over a
year and I like it. I have a few other verbs
kickin' around the house but the 'Holy Grail'
works the best for me. It just rides around
in the back of my very old amp.

Jody, did you follow the discussion a few weeks ago about the Lexicon effects?
After hearing the praise, I bought Lexicon MPX 110 ($199.99). I can't believe how quiet it is and I can adjust the mix and delay time on the front panel.
I like my profex but the Lexicon is quieter and easier to operate.
It also has a great chorus and flange as well as different types of echo/reverb. |

Brandin, if that was the Holy Grail you were playing through when I heard you in Austin back in March, yes, it is a very good sounding reverb! Especially with that little Rickenbacker amp!!

I heard Brandin last Saturday with the Holy Grail, and I got to play through his rig and I thought it sounded fantastic! If I didn't have spring reverb on my amps, I would buy one.

| And actually, much like the Fender reverb knob, I find it to be a pretty twitchy knob----sneeze while you are adjusting it and you will have Dick Dale knocking on the door asking who the hell you think you are. Wish they used a smoother taper. |
