I am looking for a 'small' stereo power amp (20 W to 50 W) for double duty on steel guitar, and electric guitar.
Current shortlist is: Mesa 20/20 ($500); Mesa 50/50 ($400), Peavey 50/50 ($300).
Has anyone A/B'ed these for steel and 6-string? Opinions? |

If you want a tube amp, fine. I have the PV 50/50 and it sounds good but I haven't used it enough (and it's not currently in my rig) so I can't really say more. It is heavy.
If you want to look past tube amps, I don't know the Carvin but I have no quarrel with it. I bet it is very lightweight.
You also might try ebay for a Mosvalve MV-962. There's a few there right now. Past history has these going in the $200 range (actually that's around what I paid for the 50/50 on ebay too. I got the Mosvalve for around $170 four years ago) but if you have the patience, I have a feeling one of the ones there now just may go for a nice price.
It is small, pretty light, and it sounds good.
It is two rack spaces as opposed to the Carvin's one. |

I believe Carvin has re-introduced it's 100 watt tube power amp. I heard good things about the previous version.

I have both Mesa amps, the 50/50 and the 20/20. I prefer the feel of the 20/20 but it's not enough power for outdoor gigs. Both of them sound spectacular for guitar or steel, in my opinion.

John.
Do you need a preamp/mixer with this amp? Or do you go from tuner/amp, fx unit/spesker cab? have you tried one?
I like the way the DCM600 looks.
