Topic: need info on Sunn Amp |

I just resurrected a junk amp that was in my junk pile for years. It is a Sunn SL-160,guitar amp,60w,12"spk.
It has only one input jack which is a 1/4"stereo jack. It has a pregain for input 1 and a drive&gain for input 2 plus a master gain.
I don't understand how I can use channel 2 without a stereo pickup and a stereo cord. Maybe I need a switchbox with mono in and a switch to connect to either terminal on the stereo jack in the amp.
I have been to a lot of dog and pony shows but I ain't ever seen nuttin like this.
There is a Sunn website (dangpow.com)but it has no info for this model other than a picture.
Any help will be appreciated. |

| How do you know that the input is stereo? Did you shine a light in the 1/4" hole and see 3 connectors (tip-ring-sleeve) ? |

I know it has a stereo-jack because I had to repair it. I had it out of the cabinet on my bench.(I do electronic repair work for a living).
It is all transistor and sounds pretty doggone good. I use a NV400 on jobs and intend to use this as my practice amp.
Oh yeah, I learned that Sunn was purchased by Fender. There is a picture of this amp at "dangpow.com" in the museum section.

Jim, it is evidently a guitar amp. Channel 2 has a "drive" control and a "gain" control. I assume this is for overdrive distortion. It also has a "bright" switch which really accents the highs.
Did you use the link I supplied in a previous reply? The museum photo of the amp, also gives some specifications. The photo also shows a little switch box with the amp. That could be the item I need to switch between the 2 channels.
There is a switch jack on the back of the amp but I thought it was probably for the reverb.
I can figure this thing out if I remove it from the cabinet again. I was hoping someone could save me the trouble. |
