I have had some problems with microphonics on a Legrande II with stock single coils (about 10 years old). I can live with hearing a little noise from pedal mashing through the pickup, but what's worse is a lot of bar drag noise. I doubt this has got anything to do with my technique, since I didn't have the problem on another guitar, with an GL E-66. My question is, do you think the microphonic pickup is causing this, or should I try and lower the pickup height? I checked it and it seems to be somewhere around 3/16", as recommended. Is replacing the pickup the only solutiom?

A new pickup will not help with bar drag noise.
Maybe you should try a different bar. |

You also might want to try different strings (and/or a different bar). I use a chrome plated bar and GHS nickel strings, and definitely feel the difference in drag and noise over a stainless steel bar with the same strings. I've also tried different strings, including steel and roundwound nickel, again, much more drag and noise.
My pickups are all single coils, and the right combo of bar and strings can make a big difference with little effect from the pickups.
Good luck! |
