I've been using a Fender (Boo-wah) and an old Sho-Bud volume pedal and am thinking of upgrading to a Hilton or the new Goodrich. I imagine my pedals are "high". What would the advantantage be to going "low"? I play a Remington 2X8 non-pedal (console) sitting down. Any advice would be appreciated, especially considering the cost of these babies. Thanks, Tim Taylor.

Tim,
I find there is a big difference in the standard Hilton pedal and the standard Goodrich. You would be better to try them first if this is possible. The Hilton is more comfortable for me but might not be for you.

I have no way of trying them here in town. How do they differ compared to my sho-bud or fender? Tim.

Tim; you playing a non-pedal steel won't really make a difference in the height of your volume pedal.
The high or low profile volume pedals were really designed so that player can haven his same chair...and have his right knee at the height he desires, so his knee is hitting the Knee levers at what is comfortable to him.
I would say that if your sitting in the same chair height ..and you think your right leg is too high/or too much of a bend in the knee....>than a lower profile will help...
But myself...when I'm playing my non-pedal sitting down..and my volume pedal seems to be too high...I just slide if forward...ah..ha....cause there's no pedal board there and I don't need my knees to be hitting anything.
So that is the diff...

Thanks Ricky. Do you like the newfangled pedals? I want to tell you I saw you in Milwaukee at a little bar called the Uptowner (3 years ago?) near the beginning of my steel "career", and you were cordial, and inspiring. Thanks loads, Tim.

Yeah Tim I remember the "Uptowner" ....fun folks there.
I have one of everything volume pedal wise.
I like my old Shobud Volume pedal the best..>but I like all the others the same.

I tried to use a low profile Goodrich pedal but couldn't because the pivot is different compared to the high. It hurt trying to shut the pedal off, but I'm very happy with a good old 120 Goodrich. Loren.
