Topic: Fender Princeton 65 amp w/reverb |

I would like to know the pro's and con's of the Princeton 65 amp w/reverb-12" spkr. for steel use. Is it just a bedroom amp or can it be used on gigs. Does it put out a good sound/tone for steel?

| In my humble opinion, the Fender amp is not going to give you the power you need for gigging. I like Fender amps for guitar, and their reverb sounds great! It would be a good bedroom amp for steel, but for playing gigs you need more power. The Peavey amps are great for steel, The Nashville 400, and the newer Nashville 1000 will give you all the power and volume you need for playing out with a band. They are heavy, but they deliver the sound! The newer Nashville 112 is smaller, lighter and less expensive. I see a lot of players are reporting using them on gigs with good results. Thanks Larry...does the Peavey 112 have reverb (spring reverb like the Fender)? What would the 112 cost?

Lloyd, I play a Princeton 65 out every weekend professionally. Good guitar amp but it makes a pi$$ poor steel amp! It doesn't have the bass response required for steel. The Peavey 112 is what you want. Fantastic for a small 12" steel amp. Call Bobbe Seymour at Steel Guitar Nashville

I have one that I use for practice only. I have an inexpensive 5-band eq that I use, to boost the lows. I also use a bit of delay. The combination sounds fine, at practice (with the band). Not enough headroom for a gig, though.
