I have been out of the music business for some 18 years so i'm a little behind the times. I'm looking to get a rack mount that has reverb, delay, fuzz, ect. I don't need all the different amp and box simulations some have. One of the names that I see coming up quite often is Lexicon, but what one do I want?

Lexicon came out with the 200 model that I bought a while ago. I really like it for delay, chorus and a little compression. They are noted for their reverbs but I use a Tube Works spring reverb unit for that. It seems like Lexicon has discontinued this model but you might be able to find it used on e-bay. Otherwise the 100 or 110 model might fit your needs just fine.

I don't believe the Lex units offer fuzz.

They have wonderful reverbs, delays, chorus, flange, etc.

Richard,

Lexicon makes the best digital reverbs in the world, that's why you see them in every high end studio here in Nashville. But, if you want something that will give you distortions and things like that, find you a Peavey Profex2, or a Tubfex.

You might want to look at TC Electronics stuff, G-force or Fireworx. I have TC, Lexicon and Eventide boxes and they all are excellant at what they do.

I saw the Lexicon MPK-110, that replaces the MPX-100. It seems the MPK-110 would work for me but, no fuzz or sustain? Anybody know for sure? It sure would be nice to have it all covered in one unit.

Profex II is the best all around I have found. Simple to operate, great reverb and delay possibilities, not necessarily the settings that are on the "card". However, if you are into really great distortion or fuzz, I would recommend the Peavey Tubefex or Transtubefex.

Well, no im not really into distortion and or fuzz but there are those few songs I would use it I guess. It would be nice if it was on the unit when needed. I know nothing about the Profex, Tubfex or Transtubefex. Do they offer all the rest of the noted affects. Man, I have been gone a long time. I was at a steel jam this past weekend and one of the steelers had a good size box beside him. Could that have been one of those you mentioned?

Richard, the Profex II does have distortion and some good ones but the Tubefex and TTF have really great control of overdrive. Other than that, the Profex II has very adequate distortion and about all other effects you could likely want. It is a very good effects unit and can be used as effects unit only or preamp effects unit. It is probably to most popular steel effects unit to have come along in my opinion. The "good size box" you mention stands a very good chance of having contained one of these units along with maybe a preamp and poweramp possibly. The Profex II is a great unit and so simple to use. You would not be sorry if you go with any of the three Peaveys units mentioned.

I love Lexi reverbs, delays, etc. As far as I know they are not into distortion/fuzz/ etc.
TubeFex, Profex, and TranstubeFx from Peavey have it all.

TC Electronics will have most anything you want. They have several models.

Hope this helped.

OK it sounds like most of you guys are leaning toward the Profex 11. All my amps are Peavey anyway so it should be a good match. The next question, is it a rack mount?

Super Info Guys, Thanks

It's not a rack mounted unit, but Goodrich makes the "steel driver" that clamps to the leg of your steel. It incorporates the "match box" unit with a "fuzz" effect. If you want to have the fuzz effect at your finger tips, this might be the way to go.

Richard, Yes, all of the PV units mentioned are rack mounted, single space. I would opt for the Tubefex since it has a real tube preamp as well as a good built in tuner. Used, they run either side of $300.

If you want fuzz with a Lexicon unit you need a MPX-G2.It's got "stomp box" eefects in it along with the Lexicon reverbs, delays, chorus, etc.
