Digitech 2112 with Lexicon MPX100

I'm in the middle of redoing my rack. Before I took it all apart I had the lexicon going to the fx loop on the 2112. Would there be any advantages to running it in line instead of running it through the loop? Also, I'll be using 2 evans amps, one FET 500 HV and one LV. I may or may not be using them together. Since these are combo amps, is there any need to use the preamp on the 2112? I have been just using the 2112 for FX only, but if I stand to gain anything by using the preamp I'd like to know. Any possibility of damaging the Evans's by putting another preamp before the preamp on the fet 500?

I can't imagine you needing another preamp, when you have a couple of the best steel guitar amps ever made.

On the MPX100, if you just use one output, the unit combines both left and right signals. You can send that out to one Evans. When you're using both amps, just use two cords and send the signal out to the amps.

I run my Lex between the volume pedal and my Evans (FET 500 LV). I don't hear any improvement when I place it in the f/x loop of the amp.

You're right, these amps sound really good by themselves. The only reason I'm even trying to use the 2112 is for some of the rock tunes we do (distortion, auto wah etc). I wasn't even really looking for a procesor when I bought the 2112 but i got such a good deal that I couldn't turn it down. One of these days I'll have to get me a DPC 750 and some speaker cabs to have a complete rack system. The FEt 500's are hard to beat, but, it's fun to experiment sometimes. Thanks for the info

Since the 2112's have 2 AX7A's in them - don't you want to try to incorporate the tubes in your preamping or are they solely for the distortion path?

No need for another preamp with what you are using.
I like two combo amps. Very flexible. I go from PSG>VP>Lexicon left/right>amp1 amp2.

As mentioned above, when I use one amp, I just run mono.
I don't know anything about the Digitech. I can't imagine needing more than the Lexi.

Thanks guys. I've used the 2112 a couple of different ways. I may go back to the original plan and use it for FX only and bypass the preamp. Any more ideas? I'm in experimentation mode right now

Just thought of this. If I run the lexicon in line as opposed to the fx loop, I could completely bypass the 2112 (bypass switch) when I'm not using it and still use the lexicon. hmmmmmmmmmmm

These days I primarily use my 2112 as a tube preamp for direct recording. I also use a Lexicon (MPX110) for reverb only, so that I have direct control over reverb at all times. I can also turn the reverb off with all 2112 patches very easily.
My signal chain is
GTR -- VOL PED -- 2112 -- Reverb
and then either directly into a recording board or into one or two Standels. I've also used it with a MV-500 and it sounded great with that config as well.

I always use the tube preamp, usually alone, but sometimes use the ss preamp out of phase with the tubes. Very flexible and GREAT SOUNDING preamp setup, in my opinion.
