BIAB "Direct to Disk" question?

Can I record a Midi file to a cd using the "Direct to Disk" audio rendering option or do i have to convert it to a wav file first?

A midi file is just information for another midi device to use as information for internal settings only. MIDI by itself is not music, just digital code signals.

You need to convert to a music format such as MP3 or Wave.

I believe there is a virtual synth add-on integrated with the PC versions of BiaB, that will allow you to "render" an audio file in one step. But I haven't used it.

You will have to make them into WAV files before burning to CD.

Perhaps BIAB lets you record to .wav now - I've not used it in a while and can't remember if that option exists in my version.

if not............. I'd do this;
1) set your vol. control panel so that
you can record from your sound card.

. double click the little vol. speaker icon
. click Options / Properties
. click Recording button, and select all the vol. controls and say OK to see the record vol. sources - select the one you need. (usually Wave Out Mix)

2) start some audio recording software and make sure it's listening to your soundcard. It probably will by default, but packages like SONAR need to be configured.

3) play your BIAB MIDI file

4) burn the audio file you created to CD

OR, If you have an external CD recorder just plug the output of your soundcard into that and burn a CD.

I think that Roland Virtual Sound Canvas might get you most, if not all, of the way there. I'm fairly sure that it can rip (encode) a MIDI file into MP3 format. Musicmatch Jukebox can create standard audio CD's from MP3 files or if you just want a CD-R of MP3 files you can use any CD burning program like Roxio Easy-CD Creator or what have you to burn the CD.
