Topic: Space between strings and P.U. |

If someone will give me the suggestion about the space between strings and the pickups,it will be very much appreciated.
My case the P.U. is Bill Lawrence 705.
I would like to know the right distance.

| Lay a quarter (25-cent piece) on the pick-up and adjust each end of pick-up where the strings just clear the quarter. Works for me! |

| What Tom said. That's the closest you'd want to be. They say if you get closer the magnets in the pickup are close enough to the strings to dampen sustain. Sometimes you might want either the treble or bass end moved a little farther away, depending on the tone you want and your picking style. |

More like 2 or 3 quarters for the 705.
Those are Blade magnets you see..and any closer than 2 quarters and you WIll inhibit the string vibration.
It's the pickups with covers on them(George L..ect.) that you want as close as a quarter...because the magnets are still 3 quarters away under the cover.

| Buck, in case you can't find a quarter there in Japan, it's about 1.6 mm thick. So from what was said above, it sounds like you want the bottom of the strings to be about 3 or 4 mm from the pickup. |

Gentleman, here are conversions for various measureing methods:
1 Quarter= app .068", 1/16" or 1.72mm
2 Quarters = app .136",1/8" or 3.47mm
3 Quarters = app .204", 3/16" or 5.20mm
If you happen to be short on Quarters, the smooth end of a drill bit makes a good gauge and come in standard sets close to most sizes ..
