I have an old Telecaster which has two pickups and the bridge pickup, a single coil is not working. I took it out, and have located the positive end of the winding but
I can't find the negative. I ground the posts off and pushed the lead terminal out and figured the leads might be between layers of the bottom spool material. I have dug into it and can't find the lead wire.
Does anyone have any experience in repairing these pickups. I would like to find that inside lead so I could avoid having to rewind it.
Thanks,
Jerry

Of you need a pickup for a vintage Tele or any guitar for that matter, try:

J.M Rolph is an old Kentucky boy with a heap of talent. He did the pickups for Scotty Anderson's guitar. I am not nearly so famous, but he did a 1969 Strat one for me! It came out perfect (could not even tell it was not original). He is very inexpensive, knowledgeable and fast turn around time.

Jerry, it sounds like the beginning wire is probably buried under about 8000 turns of #42 wire..
If the wire on the starting turns breaks off under the turns that were wound after it,its next to impossible to retreive it..I have tried many times with no luck..

If you cant find it email me..With all of the business you have done with me I can "cut you a deal" on a rewind.

Ken I've got to agree with you! Both Scotty and Jim are old friends of mine. My main 6 string,a Fender Telecaster, has a Jim Rolph rewind in the bridge position. It sounds fat, but it still has that Tele edge.

He's a good one for sure, but I bet Jerry has got it down just as good or better! It is nice if we can support our fellow Forum members and supporters.

Thanks for the help from all who responded.
I put a phillip screwdriver in a drill and wound all the wire onto the screwdriver handle and never did find the grounded end so the pickup spool will be on its way to
Jerry Wallace probably this week. I have already emailed Jerry and told him to watch for my pickup. I have a pair on my Blue Lacquer LeGrande II and the guitar sounds great. I am putting a pair on a push pull for Joe Long and look forward to hearing it. Jerry also does a beautiful job making the pickup spool, it has a great look as well as a great sound. If I were a builder of guitars I would certainly offer the Wallace Truetones as an option.
