Which should be first in the signal path, the rotary effect or the echo effect?

Rotary-to-echo seems to work best. I think it has something to do with the echo delaying and layering the signal. The "roto-sound" devices seem to have more depth effect or "ambience" when fed with a dry signal.

Having owned at least 4 Leslie's and countless "simulators" I'd like to chime in that the rotosphere is a great box. Very close to the real thing (including the noise). I love it!

I've never used the rotary effect, but I've used Leslies and the echo works best in front of them. If it was on "tape" then the Leslie in a large space, with echoes, would be very cathedral.

Chas and Donny disagree. More opinions, please!

Yes, I really like my H&K Rotosphere. I've been through a lot of rotary effects, and it's my favorite so far. I like the fact that it even emulates the sound of the Leslie cabinet. I didn't know that my 12" speaker was capable of such booming bass.

Well Ok if you insist....for several years I played a Cord-O-Vox (rotating wheel) with an Echo-Plex and a Standel amp, and I had the best results going from my pedal volume control to the Echo-plex and then to the Cord-O-Vox. The "plex" worked better with the hotter signal that was then passed on to the leslie.

...but that was a long time ago...the current technologies may work differently! www.genejones.com

I've always used the echo before the Leslie/rotating speaker effect. A repeated sound through a Leslie sounds okay, but a repeated Leslie sound gets real funky and disrupts the rotating sound. Come to think of it, I never use the two effects together any more, so it's academic for me.

If you are running stereo the roto guy should be last.

Although in the studio, I always cut the leslie dry to tape (or should I know say disk...) and add the delay or verb on top of that....
