Topic: Evans FET 500 Settings? |

| I have always wanted an Evans amp. I purchased one last week from the For Sale board and it will be here tomorrow. Can anyone give me some basic starting settings to get me going? I play an early 70's Emmons and a mid 80's MCI using a normal Goodrich or Emmons pot pedal. Thanks in advance. |

Kenny,
You've got probably one of the best steel guitar amps ever made. I have and early 90's FET 500 LV and love it....of course you will want to put a Peavey 1501-4 SB in it...that will really make it sing. You have two wonderful guitars..you don't get any better that and Emmons P/P or MCI.
Here are the settings that I use, keep in mind that these settings are used with an Emmons Legrande and a Hilton Volume Pedal
Remember always set you're Master volume one or two notches higher that the imput volume so you wont overload the preamp...set the bass on 4, the body on 4, the trebble on 4, the Expand and Depth switches both up.

Here's what I use with an RV-3, Emmons push-pull, and a pot volume pedal and it works very well for me.
Master Vol. 5
Volume 3
Reverb. blend with RV-3 untill the reverb and delay sound right together
Bass 8 or 9
Body 9
Treble 2 or 2 and a half
Expand up
Depth down
Hope this helps, Like I said this works for me and I play an old Emmons too. There are alot of factors to consider.

I have a mid-80's FET-500 and love it. Back when I played a P/P Emmons, I used the same settings as Mike's. I never could get a decent sound with the Depth switch up. Watch those highs. With the treble past 3, you can break windows.

| Thanks for all the help. Amp arrived last night safe and sound. What little I was able to play with it I can tell it's everything you guys said. It is just what I was looking for, wish I would have bought one years ago. Can't wait to use it with a band. Thanks again, Kenny |

I have two Evans 1983 FET 500 LV with JBL E130 and 1999 E200 LV with stock 15". I still prefer my 1983 for pure tone. My master is usually around 2 to 3 and volume not more than 4. bass and body about midway and low trebles depth us usually up and expand usually down, but I find it can vary somewhat with the room your playing. I play a 1974 MSA D12 9 & 5.
I think Evans is the best thing that ever happened to steel guitar sounds. |
