When I purchased my 400, the center,(silver part) of the speaker has an indentation in it. it hasen't affected the sound but for appearance sake,,,,I'd like to find a way to remove the indentation. (I know, I'm being picky), and I'm not that versed in speaker repair. any Ideas ?

Hi Joe, I had the same problem a few weeks ago...Some people had suggested using a vacuum cleaner to pop it out....others suggested a piece of masking tape...none of these things worked for me... the tape wouldn't stick to the dust cap...it's actually quicker and easier to just take the magnet off and push out the dent with your finger. Just be careful lining up the groove and the coil putting it back together...it'll take maybe 15-30 mins. I have to remove the chassis to get the speaker out of my 400. 4 screws at the top of the cabinet...the cross braces... unplug the molex connector and the speaker...note the speaker connections...not really a big deal...but if you feel uncomfortable doing this, the dent is most likely not going to affect the sound.
On revisiting the amp, looks like you only have to take the 2 cross pieces off the back to get the magnet off.

Masking tape has usually taken care of this type of problem in the past. |

So that's why everyone's been buying duct tape. I didn't realize so many people in the USA had dented speaker cones!! |

Heck, when I have this problem, I usually just rip a piece off of my door jam. Ha!
By the way, I'll take you up on the cup of coffee. Thanks.[This message was edited by Mike Brown on 14 April 2003 at 12:01 PM.] |
