I was looking across the street and there was a garage sale going on and I noticed a speaker cabinet.
I was told that it had a 15" Celestion spkr in it. I bought it for $25.
I also noticed a rack mount Randall amplifier, (Sustainer 140) and a Randall pre-amp, (RRM 1-G) the gentleman said that I could have those 2 units for $35.
I took them home and hooked them up with my Alesis Microverb 4 and plugged in my old Rusler S10 and hit a chord.
I could not believe my ears...WHAT A SOUND!
I went back and forth between this new system and my NV-400 and it's no contest.
My new rack system is AWESOME.
Now if I could only play this damn steel I'd be somethin' to behold!
I have the "BEST" $60 steel guitar amp in the world.[This message was edited by Jack Francis on 18 March 2003 at 10:53 AM.] [This message was edited by Jack Francis on 18 March 2003 at 10:54 AM.] [This message was edited by Jack Francis on 18 March 2003 at 10:56 AM.] |

Well, to say the least, you got the "deal of the century". But, I suspect that most of that "good tone" you're hearing is comming from that speaker cabinet! Most players are amazed how much fuller an amp (like the 400) sounds like when playing through a bass reflex (closed-back) cabinet. Open back cabinets just have a totally different sound, even when using exactly the same speaker. Try your Peavey amp through that new speaker cabinet, and you may be pleasantly surprised. |

Good thought. I will try that today and let you know. I suspect that you may be correct. |

NO CONTEST!!
Going to the bigger enclosed cabinet with the 400 did make it sound better, but it wasn't even close to the sound of the amp here-after known as "KILLER"
I think the 400 could stand a trip to Peavey for a tune-up.
Next SWSGA jam, with other good amps around will show that I am just comparing it to an amp with a problem.

The Randall amps were killer I used to have
the single 15' model with 150W 2 channels
it was good for PSG and 6 string. It had great
tone, bite, low end had it all.....can't remember why I sold it Scott |
