The Peavey mods are much cheaper and I think just as good. At least according to M.B.

If bottom end is your primary consideration, go with the LeMay. If you just want a slight low-end boost, and a little more clarity, go with the Peavey mod. The Lemay mod costs about twice what the Peavey does, and that's too bad. (Time for LeMay to get "smart".) But if it weren't for Lemay's success, we'd have probably never seen a Peavey mod. |

Peavey also makes a mod for the ProFex II but I'm not so sure about LeMay. |

Thanks for the input concerning mod kits. I've A/B'd both kits and I didn't notice much difference in the low end response, however we wanted to ensure that the player wouldn't risk blowing the speaker by asking it to produce low frequencies below what the cabinet allowed for. However, at the same time, each of the Peavey kits(Profex II, Vegas 400, Nashville 400, Session 500 and the Session 400 Limited) consist of a handfull of components which are not that expensive. I might point out that since the Profex II algorythms were programmed by an engineer here at Peavey, the only improvement that can be made is to use updated IC's such as the highly respected OPA2604 chip, which is what the Profex II mod kit consist of. We are able to offer this to our customers at lower costs because of our purchasing power and experienced personnel in our engineering departments.
To check for avaiable kits, click on the kit name on the below link from the Peavey website. You may call me toll free at 1-877-732-8391 for pricing.

I installed the Peavey mod on my N'400 about a week ago. Incidently, many thanks go to Mike Brown for his assistance with the ordering process. My assessment of the mod: Installation is relatively easy if you take care in removal and replacement of the components. I spent about 2 hours from the time the first screw was removed until the last screw was reinstalled. As Mike stated, there are only a handfull of resistors, capacitors, and op amps. So, high cost shouldn't be a part of the equation.
The sound is most definately improved. Where as I previously "maxed" the bass setting. Now, it's about 40% or about "11 o-clock " on the dial. The mids are much warmer or mellower sounding. I'm not changing my high and presence settings as separation seems to have benefitted from the enhanced bass/mid tonal characteristics.
I have no experience with the LeMay mod. which I'm sure is also high quality, but the Peavey mod is an excellent option for the money spent. For what my opinion's worth, I highly recommend it.
Mike, thanks again for all your help!
Keep on pickin'!
