I did a search of volume pedal threads and found nothing that adresses this problem.
I have 2 Ernie Ball pedals and trying them both I seem to get a slight volume drop and a bit of distortion from time to time thru any amp that I use. (4 different amps)
Could it be that both pedals are a problem???
Using and old Dunlop the sound is normal, but it's not a good pedal to work with.

This is a tough one. I am wondering if the pot is at full travel when at max volume. There may be just a little resistance fluxuation if they aren't fully at the mechanical limit. I can only surmise that the 2 pedals were made similarly. |

I assume that when the pedals are all of the way down that they are completely on, because they both seem to have the same volume.
This volume drop and distortion seems to to be the same on either unit. |

e mail dudley@ernieballcom and tell him you know me. I think he will help answer your question. Dudley does all the design of amps and pedals etc and he knows his stuff. His name is Dudley Gimpel.

I'll be looking forward to hearing this, Jack.
I'm thinking there is some movement of the potentiometer when the pedal is at max volume. This would have the wiper read 250kOhms (assuming a 250kOhm pot) relative to signal ground.
The pot has a logarithmic response, so you don't get a fixed resistance (ohms) change per degree of rotation. The greatest Ohm change per degree is that last 1 degree, which is where your pedal is at. If there is enough variance is could be audible.
I had a similar problem on a different pedal. I had to loosen and rotate the pot so it would be at it's full travel when the pedal was fully depressed (okay, maybe just melancholy! -rimshot).
Could they simply be dirty? Were they both exposed to, say, the same dusty, sawdust, peanut-shelled bar floor?[This message was edited by Paul Osbty on 18 March 2003 at 12:28 PM.] |

I contacted Dudley and he replied that they need to have me send on of the units to them
to check it out. He gave no indication that he suspects what may be the problem.
You may have a point of the pedal being depressed I know that I am.
Maybe I just need to bite the bullet and buy a high dollar volume pedal.....hope not.
I will send one of the units to them and let you know what they say.

Sent one of the offending units to Ernie Ball today. Will report when I hear back from them. ![](http://steelguitarforum.com/smile.gif) [This message was edited by Jack Francis on 21 March 2003 at 04:03 PM.] |

Got a call yesterday from the fella at Ernie Ball that fixed my pedal to tell me it's on it's way back to me.
He said he doesn't know why it would cause the problems that I mentioned...Oh well, no answer.
Joey..please close this thread.
