Hi does anyone know how to build piezo crystal pickups for acoustic guitars.

Piezo elements act very much like crystals. The size/area of the element determines the frequency response. My guess is that it would require some manufacturing which may be beyond the do-it-yourself realm.

I used some Radio Shack piezo buzzers to create trigger signals for electronic drumming. The buzzers will produce a signal when a vibration OR a voltage is applied.

This buzzer will work, but I don't think you'd like the tone you get. I understand limited funds, but I've heard some fairly good elements for under $100.
