When I was just a young whippersnapper, I used to use a pair of headphones for a pickup on an accoustic guitar. I would clamp the headphones around the body of the guitar and plug the chord into the input of my amp. I haven't done it for years but I always thought it worked pretty good! Has anyone else done anything like this?

I've used a 12" speaker to record a bass drum.

Back in the '50s, Popular Electronics magazine described how to build a "1-string steel guitar", using common lumber and hardware. The "pickup" was merely an electrodynamic headphone, with the earpiece and diaphragm removed, which was then mounted under the string.

Yes, it worked...but not very well.
