I recieved in stock a Goldtone SM Weissenborns and I think it's great. I will
admit my experience with these guitars is limited but it has great sustain and tone. I
can recognize those two atributes. Detail work is clean. I have a Dean Markley trilogy
pick-up I'm going to install today so I'll let you know how that works out. At 999.00
retail this seems to me to be a buy after discounted.

Chuck, Your's is the first positive review I have read about them...several Weissenborn players on another forum that tried them gave them thumbs down.

I'm sure there are better sounding intruments
in the marketplace, but for the money the solid Goldtone is good. I am daily surprized
by the sound of the new generation of "off
shore" instrument like the Goldtones , Michael Kelly and Saga brands. The majors have forced the small stores to find an alternative that works. These guys are trying
harder.

I just played an LM (laminated) model -- which does not come anywhere close to either of the Superiors I have owned. A Superior is about a hundred bucks more, but the difference in tone and quality makes it well worth it. (I liked the GoldTone's matte finish, but not much else about it.)

I would like to try the SM and SS guitars, though ...

Chuck, have you installed the Dean Markley Trilogy pickup yet? I'm really curious about how it sounds.

I hope to do that tomorrow(Monday). We'll see
what happens. Russ Where do go to see a Superior? Do they have a site?

Chuck -- Superiors are made for, and sold by, the Berkeley Music Exchange.
