I just bought a blue tube with the steel
mod and am completely confused as to how to
hook it up to my power amp and fx processor.
could someone who has had experience with
the preamp please tell me how to hook it up
to my other units and how to set the knobs
and which ones should I use?
thanks in advance.
Jim

Hi Jim,

Here's how to hook up your stuff. Plug your guitar into the input of the pre-amp. Plug the pre-amps output(s) into the power amp. If it's a stereo power amp and the pre-amp has stereo outputs, of course connect each side. Your effects unit should plug into the effects loop on the back of the pre-amp. Send on the pre-amp goes to the input of the effects unit and the effect output goes back to the Return of the pre-amp. If the pre-amp has stereo returns, use both the left and right outputs from the effects back to the pre-amp. So, you come mono out of the pre-amp out to the effects, then stereo from the effects back to the returns of the pre-amps. If you're using a stereo power amp and two cabinets, the stereo field will be seperated right and left so you'll hear ping-pong delays bounce from R to L and stereo chorus and other effects stereo effects will 'move' from side to side.

Jim, if you are using a component system w/a rack mounted amp and FX unit as described above, you'll probably need to set your send and return knobs for the effects loop on the back of your preamp at about 12:00 or #5. I use this preamp in a Mosvalve rig and these numbers work well for me. I also use the inst jacks rather than the lines.
Good Luck! JO.
BTW, I'm sure you've found out by now that that the green channel is the one to use for steel. I set the vol at about 3, ignore the stack for now, treb. 3 1/2 , Mid around 4, low about 6
I'm using the 921 reverb unit in my rig so these approximate settings may not be right for you.
Also, an owners pamphlet is available for this unit...altho there are no diagrams for hook-up, some of the info might prove helpful. I'd be glad to dupe you a copy if you'd like...just let me know.

Jim,

You are just down the road a piece. When you get that big rig cranked up I'll probably be able to hear it from my house!

Keep on pickin', buddy!
