Just wondered if any of you Forumites might know how long ago This volume pedal was made. Still works good but seems to emphasize the lows too much to suit me. I use a Goodrich 120 and like it fine. Also have an old Shobud Pedal lying around somewhere. Also which of the light beam pedals wored best with most psg's? Appreciate any info you can give me.

Hi Thurlon, I had an Edwards Light Beam pedal in 1972 and it was pretty good, but I thought a little more sensitive and less smooth than the Goodrich Light Beam Pedal that I had years later.....al

Al, I also had and still do have an Edwards light beam pedal. It was great except it lost so much signal and you had to run the amp so high. I have the Goodrich so-called Chalker pedal with the adjusting pot on the side and it is good also, but I now have the Hilton bar code reader pedal and it's the greatest thing since belts replaced suspenders to hold up your pants. |

Thurlon,
I had one of the "Curly Chalker" model light beam pedals made by Goodrich "many years" ago. The built in tone circuit was nice, if you needed it. But, I found the pedal sapped the highs slightly. Dragging around an extension cord to use with it was just extra hassle as well.
Another problem I had was that the lightbulb went out and replacing it was difficult. Even the bulb that Goodrich sent me caused a change in the tone from what it previously had with the original.
It was fun for awhile until I realized how much of the highs I was loosing through it. At the point the other minor irritants with the pedal became too much and I went on to soemthing else.
It was neat at the time, for a short time, but there soon became other pedals that were much better including the present line of Goodrich pedals, such as their newest CDA 2 pedal (of which I am very interested in).
It was way ahead of it's time when it first came out, but then became way behind for it's time soon after. I'm guessing mine must have been from the "early" 80's (or late 70's?)
Funny thing, though... I loaned it and a few cords to a guy who wanted to take lessons from me and never saw the pedal, cords, OR him ever again!!!!... I 'd love to have it back for a collectible or keepsake...maybe even a paper weight. Oh well...
Best wishes,
Dave |
