I play acoustic guitar in a praise and worship band at our church. I run my Fender acoustic/electric into a Zoom f/x pedal and from it to a small Peavey amp, which is then miked. The mike is a "cheapy" and the sound coming through the mains is not good at all.
Today, I picked up a direct box to try out, instead of replacing the mike (easier on my wallet). It is a RAPCO db 100. It has 3 quarter-inch jacks on the front and the usual 3-pin low z output on the back.
The 3 jacks on the front are INPUT, OUTPUT, and GROUND LIFT. The GROUND LIFT jack appears to be wired exactly the same as the OUTPUT jack. Is this another output, or is it supposed to be used as another input?
Thanks for your help. Where would we be without you technical guys?

Lee,
The 3 quarter inch jacks should be INPUT, OUTPUT, OUTPUT. The ground lift should be a rocker switch on it.
If you are looking to improve the sound quality, you should probably leave out the Zoom pedal. I used to have one and found it took away more tone than adding.

Mark - There are no switches on the box. The INPUT jack has three wires. I don't know the technical term, but there are two little "thingies" (springs) that press against the male guitar cord. One for the tip and one for the barrel. That's on the INPUT jack. The other two jacks are normal quarter-inch jacks with two wires.

You may notice that the ground lift jack is
not a metal case. It is isolated from the
chassis to keep it from interacting with the
mixer chassis. If you have a hum only when
you connect to the PA, use this jack. |
