I came across this page that talks about "Ben Rogers and Harmony Isles Group" and Ben Rogers backing up Genoa Keawe on the 49th State record label. I assume this is the Bennie Rogers, who I've only heard a little bit of on an Auntie Genoa CD I own (his playing is great too).
Anyone familiar with these 49th State LPs?

Bennie/Ben Rogers...same guy.
I love the old 49th State LPs with Genoa and Bennie. The recording and pressing quality leaves something to be desired, but these people are/were up to their eyeballs in that Hawaiian "something" ...(what's it called?).
"N"th Degree Hawaiianness ! That's it !
Must have LP's for Hawaiian steel students. |

The entire Rogers ohana were fine musicians. If you have ever listened to George Rogers, often it wasn't the notes he played but the ones he didn't play. He had a style which can only be described as "beautiful" with tremendous expression and feeling.
Those old lp's of Benjamim Rogers are collector's items. Perhaps they did leave a bit to be desired, but for the day, they were considered to be excellent quality. The ones I have are sorta pink and when held up to the light, you can see right through them. They were on the old 49th State label. |
