Debashish has a new CD out called "Trinity of Guitars. It's available here:
http://www.abstractlogix.com/xcart/customer/product.php?productid=17667&cat=&page=1

The site features a number of audio clips of his astounding playing on ragas.

Speaking of Indian improvisiational music, there are some cool clips of John McLaughlin's incredible guitar work with Shakti available here: http://www.remembershakti.com/video.html

Debashish plans to join Shakti on stage as part of Eric Clapton's upcoming June 24th benefit auction & concert in Dallas. Before that, he'll be doing a concert in NY with Bob Brozman.

The "Trinity" CD arrived this weekend. I'm not an expert on Indian classical music by any stretch of the imagination but I'm really impressed by this music. Once you accept that Debashish's astounding technical control is a given, you can really dig into the feeling and emotion he brings to the instrument.

Debashish and his countryman Vishwa Mohan Bhatt are currently the biggest influences on what kind of things I practice on pedal steel guitar. When these guys can play a sequence of scale tones going up and down one string faster than I can play them using all my strings, fingers and pedals it's time for some different kinds of woodshedding. I've tried to explain that Debashish's bar movement is at least two to three times faster than (revered Gods) Doug Jernigan and Buddy Emmons, but some people would rather not hear that.
