I just noticed that Gruhn's Guide to Vintage Guitars has some intriguing references to OMI-built brass tricones: "Triplate, 3 resonator cones under standard Dobro coverplate, roundneck (TP) or squareneck (TP-S)." According to the book, during 1990 they were offered in four different models: 33, 36, 75 and 1000. However, it also says "few, if any, made."

Does anyone know if they actually produced any? I've never seen a picture or even a reference to them ...

Russ, if it's any help I have an old OMI catalog and a '91 OMI price list.
The catalog is not specific about the type of resonator, but the pictures of the models that you refer to show these models as plated, engraved "f" hole models with the standard cover plate available as you say, in round or sq. neck. Ornately engraved, increasingly in degree, respectively from lowest model number up.
The price sheet lists "cone or spider" options but does not describe further. The price sheet has a cover letter signed by a person named Dawn.

Russ-I have never seen one of the instruments that you are asking about-The model numbers that you refer to are the standard catalog numbers for the Dobro/OMI single cone reso guitars in the catalog-PW

Hi Paul -- I've been wondering where you've been and what you've been up to ...

From what I can gather, the "-TP" and "-TPS" were suffixes to the standard OMI model numbers. And since the tricone setup was under a standard Dobro coverplate, they would be pretty easy to miss.

I did get one response from someone on another forum I visit: There were a few made. I saw a style 3 once. It looked nice but looked like a standard Dobro on the outside. Sounded ok, but not like a National.
