Has anyone tried the 5 position pickups George L is marketing. It sound like what I want when reading the description but I would like to hear from any of you that have tried one.

Those are my favorite George L pickups. It's like having 6 pickups at the turn of a switch.

The ads say 5 positions since they say that the 6th one is useless. Wrong of course!

I had one on my old Williams guitar but I found the setting I liked and never changed it.

I use those on my old shobud. I originally bought them because of the humbucking mode....which now of course I NEVER use....way too dark. Some engineer "vibed" me into going that route once after a particularly ugly hum going direct for a pretty big time session. I remember going into shock at the time because even with the 6 sounds, I couldnt match the original shobud sound...although now I've acclimated to them & enjoy occationally changing tones. But basically I too just use one sound.

I have since bought a pickup from Georgel and mounted it on my MSA Classic. I took a Bill Lawrence double blade out. The pickup has a little better sustain than the BL and I like the option of 6 selections. It is OK for the price.

Darvin,,Which position setting do you use? I have a BMI and Nashville 400 amp and I just can't seem to find that full, rich clean sound I hear from some other players,,,of course I know technique is a big factor, but I'd like to hear some comments from others who use this pick-up.

I have used the 5 sound pickup in the past, only found one sound (single coil) that was just about acceptable. Every George L pickup I have used (5 sound, E66, TPPP) has ended up in the spare parts drawer.

Sonny, I used the maximum resistance setting, its been 2 or 3 years since I sold the guitar and I can't remember what the resistance was. All the other settings sounded too thin for my taste.

Harold, pickups themselves don't 'sustain'....they transmit what the guitar is capable of. Don't confuse pickup output with guitar sustain. If your guitar is solid, it will supply all the sustain you'll ever need. The trouble with many pickups, is that they will not reproduce all the freqencies needed for that interpretation of the sound, as in, the guitar 'wants to', but the pickup won't let it. I've found that the multi-sound pickups don't really have that many 'usable' sounds, and because of the way they're made, are difficult to get just one really great sound.

These pickups are great. As with any new pickup, you will need to do some tone adjusting on the amp but thats about it!
