I have two old JBL speakers I need reconed thought I'd ask to try to find the best place to do the job as close to orginal as possible one is a 77 Peavey JBL the other I think come out of a old sho-bud model on that speaker is M41 if anyone can help please mail me at btaft@socket.net

Benchcraft Electronics, Nashville. I am sorry I can't locate his address and phone at the moment. Someone one the Forum probably can. The owner is Woody Woodell and he is a very close friend of Paul Franklin Sr so you could get info from him. Woody did a great job on three JBL's for me.

There is a Peavey authorized service center by the name of Speaker Reconing Services which is located in Fort Worth, Texas. The owner is Joe Phillips and his number is (817)334-0713. I know that Joe does good work.

Shipping costs often make it impractical to get it done by mail. By the time you pay shipping both ways, plus the repair cost, you're in "new speaker" territory. The only exception might be where you have a really valuable vintage speaker (we're not talking anything less than 40 years old, here) that you need restored.
Orange County Speaker Repair, in California, is one of the best in the country, so all you have to do is decide if you want to spend what it would cost.
In most cases, it's just easier and more practical to buy a new speaker, unless you can find a "local" rebuilder. Any vintage speaker that has been reconed will sound different than it did originally. Some will sound better...some will sound worse, but it will sound different (and you can take that to the bank!) |

| I've never done a JBL, but I have reconed other speakers (including Altec and EV) with good results. If you're in the least bit handy it isn't that hard. There's an outfit in Fort Wayne, Indiana that sells kits, along with an instructional video. It's worth checking out.
