I got a L-705 P/U that is (believe it or not) too hot. It distorts very bad when trying to play/record. I know its not the equipment as I have tried verious way of connecting it to the P/A,recorder,and amp. Anyone know a way to lower the gain of this thing ??

(BTY) The DC ohmage across P/U is 20.02 K ohms.

Bill, I've got 705's in 4 guitars and eventhough they are hot, I never get any distortion. Maybe your pickup has gone bad.

Pickups don't just distort....bad conections, switches, shorts inline can. Check all connections from pickup to whatever for shorts.

Try putting a load resistor across the output jack of your guitar. Something in the 300k-500k range should help.

And whatever you do, DON'T use it in the same sentence as the word 'inductance'....

I have attached the P/U to a 20MHZ scope, feed a 1Khz tone to it. The scope displays a perfect sine-wave.

Tried placeing the tone source from 1/16 to 1/2 inch from P/U, (read this as 1 to 7 quarters distance) and still the responce of the P/U is good. I,now am really at a loss.

Bill,it sounds like the output of the 705 is just too hot..Try what B0B said and just use aligator clip leads to clip a 500k resistor across the lead/ground at the jack or the pickup wires and see if this helps???
That should drop the output..
