Amps and moving companies...

Need some advice on moving a couple of amps cross country.

I may be moving to Los Angeles soon and will have a moving company do the move. I have to move a Nashville 400 and a Mesa Boogie MKII.

I thought I would put thin plywood over the front and back of both amps (further covered with furniture pads) to prevent anything from poking through to the speakers. The Mesa Boogie is a tube amp and I planned to remove the four 6L6 tubes, wrap them in bubble wrap and secure them inside the amp cabinet.

The pre-amp and reverb tubes all have those spring loaded metal canisters over them.
Will these be safe left in their sockets, or should they be removed as well?

I would use something less abrasive to "sandwich" the amp such as 1" foam insulation or styrofoam. Then maybe the plywood.You would be surprised how things seem to "rub" & move about in travel!

Considering those amps went from the manufacturer--to where ever you bought them---in good condition (with the tubes inserted), I think any major mover would do as good. I would just have them wrap the amps in a furniture pad, and then put them in a (heavy-duty cardboard) packing crate.

Large nationwide movers routinely move $30,000 Steinways...so your amps shouldn't present much of problem!
