I recently puchased one of these units and I am very pleased with the ease of use and the quality of recordings it produces. I know there are lots of other options, but for me this works great and the price was right-$625
Amazingly, my guitar and steel playing sounds just as bad on digital recording that is does live ! |

I have been toying with the idea of getting into recording also. The Boss is on my list, but I am kind of leaning towards the Tascam 788. In any case, the digital studios seem to be the route to go over the cassette variety.
Any comments from anyone? Tascam, Fostex, Boss, Roland?????

Our singer has one and I hate it. Copiyng from ZIP to ZIP is a pain in the ass and you actually can only record two tracks at the same time. Roland has a competetive product out that is supposed to be more advanced. I've never seen it, though.

| I'm a Roland VS fan. My first VS was the 880 sticker model with a 540MB drive and I paid $2100 for it! This year I bought a used 1880 (18 tracks with 288 virtual tracks) with an effects board for $1550. The Rolands have great sound quality and versatility and the mic modeling effects are worth the price all by themselves. Get a VS880EX as a good starter. They have a raised and lighted (although small) display, 2MB drive, and have superb built-in effects (no board required). And you can pick up a used one for about $800. Don't forget ...... you need a back up device (CD or DAT) to store your projects and to mix down. |

The 788 records at 24 bit, big difference fidelity. I think he Boss unit is 16 bit.
