Anyone using the Roland or Yamaha midi converters for steel? Can the p/up be placed under say, strings 3-8 with satisfactory results? Are the patches compatible with steel? I'm thinking of the Roland GR series or the Yamaha G-50

I've heard that a few guys have tried placing the six string guitar pickups at an angle under the pedal steel strings with varying success. The angle is necessary because six string spacing is greater than pedal steel string spacing. Then you have the problem of the pickups being too far away from the bridge.

As far as I know, all the "patches" are in the sound module, not in the MIDI converter.
