Although I have always believed that you want any effects to receive full guitar output and that they should be before the volume pedal, I have found that I really dislike the unnatural abrupt tail cut-off when I run my RV-3 this way. So I go guitar>vol. pedal>RV-3>amp.
I think that the sustain unit should go the first in the chain. |

In most cases you would want the digital sustain unit (or a matchbox type unit) as close to the guitar as possible and the first thing the guitar sees. After that it's a toss up, but I run from my guitar to a MatchBro to the volume pedal to my Nashville 400 input. I have a Boss DD5 I use (when I use the Nashville) and I run it in the effects loop.
Another alternative, if you want to use the "3 cord" hookup is to run from guitar to digital sustain to RV3 to the Nashville 400 input and then run the volume pedal in the effects loop.
