I sat in with a different band Sat Nite for the first time with them. The female singer was using the subject device. She was able to sing harmony with herself, live, and I was impressed with the job this device did so, I'm considering getting one. Does anyone have any pros or cons to say about this unit? The best price I can fine is $300 so I'd like to know a little more before I buy. Also, does anyone know of any other unit that does the same thing, that I should consider?

Hi Bob
I located a VPR through a national music store a while back for a friend of mine. I was so impressed with the little unit that I purchased one for myself. I took it to a practice session one night and the other band members were blown away by the sound of this unit {perfect harmony every time) with the touch of a switch.

The few songs that I sing (Eagles songs) are always done with the VPR as harmony back-up and with the VPRs ease of set up, I have a perfect back-up every time.

The only tricky settings I have found with my unit is the amount of harmony vocals over lead vocals, there is a sweet spot for this setting.

I like the built in Midi that lets you simply plug into the unit with a mike & then out to the board or snake,, thats it! and the reverb in this unit is great. The VPR has an attachment that screws onto any Mike stand and lets the user control everything right at the finger tips, I like that.
If you purchase the VPR be sure & order the foot switch so harmony can be cut in & out with the foot & leave the hands free for playing.

One thing you must remember is that this unit is made for a single vocalist,,in other words if you have two or more vocalist singing into your mike with you, the VPR will try to pitch each voice into harmony with that voice .......wont work
I love my VPR & glad I purchased one,,BUT!!
hurry if your going to purchase one ,,,they are no longer in production.

Hey Bob
I've been using the Digitech VP for about a year now and everyone loves it. I did have trouble with the first unit but when I returned it to the dealer they replaced it on the spot. I understand that Digitech now is producing a new model that adds three additional harmony parts to the live vocal. Chech it out on Digitech's web site.

I think Ernie Renn puts his STEEL thru one to play harmonies. (It's easier that way, ain't it Ernie? )

If these are like the studio versions, you need to be able to change unit to the chords and keys you play in. Usually with Midi to a keyboard, via a midi foot pedal or computer.

Anyone have the lowdown on the VPR?

IE: Key of C using the I, III, VI, V as the specific chord for the harmony.

With the VPR you can simply punch the root chord for the song you are doing in before doing the song & thats it. Also you can store about 50 preset song chords into the unit and call them up with the foot controler.
IE: If I was doing a song in (D) and wanted the harmony parts to be in (A) or (Am) I could pre program the song & assign the pre set for this song to #1 on the store list. Then any time I wanted harmony on this song I would simply use the foot controller & go to the #1 pre set on the store menu of which there are 50.

I bought my vocalist performer about 5 months ago for $300 from Sam Ash music. I don't know of any lower prices, but if production is stopping you may eventually find some better close out prices. It's an interesting unit but I haven't used it enough to have a really good handle on it. Would I by one again? I would say I'd go for at least the next grade up. Would I part with the one I have now? No way.
