Topic: Effect for slide Strat sound? |

| I would like to get a sound sort of like Bonnie Raitt on her Stratocaster. Has anybody found a stomp box or other technique or effect that would give something close? I play an Emmons LeGrande with a N1000 amp. |

Bonnie Raitt uses a compressor on all her electric slide playing and it's a big part of her tone. Compression and a little overdrive should get you most of the way there.

Don't forget, Mz Bonnie is using a "Glass" bottleneck slide and that is a big part of her tone also!

The biggest part of the 'effect' is using a tube amplifier cranked. The NV1000 is a fine clean steel amp, but there isn't a stomp box around that will give you that sound.
Having a fret board is nice, but not necessary.

| A stomp box that will help you get there is the Boss Blues Driver. It's a nice sounding overdrive with some built in compression. If you can get hold of one, a glass bar really helps in getting a silky tone. My brother's a glass blower so I got him to make me this big fat glass bar out of glass rod stock. I don't know if anybody makes them, but if someone's interested I could see if my brother could make a run of them. |

Thanks for all the good info. I think the compression is the piece I was looking for. I have seen the Boss Blues Driver and will try one out. I just switched to the Nashville 1000 from a tube amp because most of the time I want a clean sound. I just don't want to carry two amps for an ocasional blues. Any more suggestions, let me know.

I'm messing around with this flat pickup Bill Lawence makes. I think its called a 6-10. It gets a sorta strat sound.
You slide the pickup under the strings in front of the regular pickup.
