What I do is take some White 100% Silicone Rubber and dab it in ... then level it with a plastic straight edge.
I have done it several times ... it looks good and the silicone will not damage anything ...
You can pull them right out with tweezers if need be ...
Just make sure its the 100% silicone rubber and not regular caulk or a combination sealant

Rick, I thought you used nail polish! I recall you telling me a story about carrying a B-6 into the cosmetics department at a department store and getting all the saleswomen to help you match the color ...
Did your wife make you switch materials? |

Russ, you have a very good memory ...
Thats exactly what I did ... but since switched to the white silicone ...
I do miss the ladies at the Clinique counter though |

I never got around to filling in the holes on my B-6, Rick.
So now I'll have to choose: the women in the Cosmetics department at Nordstrom, or the guys in the Paint department at Home Depot? [This message was edited by Russ Young on 28 April 2004 at 04:18 PM.] |

Glenn, plain white tooth paste will do the job. I replaced the missing dots on one I had in the early 50s.

Stewart Macdonald has various sizes of inlay dots, which I use in the fret board holes. They come out nice if all of them are replaced. I use the pearl type, as opposed to the abilone type.

as long as school is in session, can I get a lesson on touching up the white lines next to the frets? |

I went to a craft store and got the squirt tube of blue metal flake. Kind of an Emer's Glue with a disco attitude. It looked pretty good on the dots and the frets, lasted a couple years before some touch up needed. |

Repainting or touching up the white fret markers is tedious. It's an off-white and hard to match, and all guitars seem to have a different "fade factor' on the shade of white. If you have the patience, the frets can be masked with Scotch fine-line tape or just Scotch clear tape, and repainted. If they are all repainted, the color matching problem is gone.
