Help......I've got a dorbo that I'd like to
equip with a pickup. But I don't have the foggiest what to look for. I did a search on this forum but nothing came up.
Any suggestions would sure be appreciated.
Thanks.
Best wishes.

Clay, why don't you try a horn microphone? When I played with David Houston, the saxaphone player had a clip in microphone down in the sax. It was one of those remote control microphones. I put it in my dobro, and got the best amplified sound I had ever got. Full line music stores have these microphones.

Heck of an idea! Never even thought of going
that route. I'll pursue it. Thanks for the advise and council.

Clay, this website is the best I've found for all things regarding dobro and National resophonic type instruments.

Bill Lawrence makes a great Dobro pick-up, very low profile (used by Jeff Peterson of Clint Black band) give him a call. |

Yes, I have a Lawrence pickup in my resonator, but(much to Bill's chagrin), I also use a Crown GLM 'mini' microphone with it. I place the Crown in the hole in the top plate just in front of the bridge. It's on a clip that you can put on the cover plate. You mix the two together, and you'll have plenty of volume and not lose the acoustic sound.....and have waaaay mo' better gain before feedback than using a 'pieso' type pickup....which also picks up every click, clack, burp, fart, and scrape that you might have happen while you're playing. |

My best sound live came from using a old Barcus Berry pickup and an AT mich mounted on the treble side of the spider. I came stereo out the end pin and used a 70 watt Trace Elliot acoustic amp to mix the signal. I could hear myself on stage and the sound guy really liked the signal I was giving him both in tone and level. I was using a Scheerhorn Resophonic guitar with the pickup mounted at the end of the fretboard. I don't remember the model of pickup, but don't remember that there were a lot of choices at the time.
I'm really pleased with this set up, but could supply you with a number set ups that didn't work. An acoustic in an electric band. Oh man.
